Description
Offered is a 1947 U.S. Army Occupation Zone Germany Cigarette Case. This brass cigarette case is most likely from 1947, just after WWII ended and the United States occupied "West" Germany. This vintage case is in wonderful condition with only slight discoloration on the back corner as pictured. The inside of the case is excellent, bright brass, with a nice strong spring loaded clasp to hold the cigarettes and a fine working closure. There are no dents in this case. Nice color on the 1st Infantry insignia and the dots denoting the cities location. Like new condition, overall, for being about 70 years old. Measurements- 3.5" X 4.75" X .43" thick. It is still in the original box.The 1st Infantry Division is a combined arms division of the United States Army, and is the oldest continuously serving division in the Regular Army. It has seen continuous service since its organization in 1917 during World War I.It was officially nicknamed "The Big Red One" (abbreviated "BRO") after its shoulder patch and is also nicknamed "The Fighting First."The division has also received troop monikers of "The Big Dead One" and "The Bloody First" as puns on the respective officially sanctioned nicknames. It is currently based at Fort Riley, Kansas.
